How Did Edelman Plumbing Begin? In 1952, Alan Edelman started selling plumbing goods out of the back of his truck, and eventually moved the business into the basement of his home. In 1960, Alan moved the business to a small warehouse in Brooklyn, Ohio. The first showroom was built with 3 bathroom displays. Sheldon Edelman joined his father in the business in 1976 and expanded the showroom to 1600 square. In 1990 Edelman opened a 9,600 showroom on the eastside of Cleveland and in1998, another 9,600sf showroom was opened on the west side of Cleveland. The company headquarters and distribution center moved to the east side location in Bedford Hts. in 2000.

This sounds like a family operation, is this the case? Yes. Edelman is 3 generations strong. Alan, the founder, his son Sheldon, who is the president, and Sheldon’s two sons Dan, who runs the wholesale part of the business, and David, who manages all of Edelman’s IT systems.

Does Edelman sell to the Residential or Commercial Markets? While we primarily sell to the luxury residential market, we also have two city counters that cater to the contractors.

Do you help your clients with designing their kitchens and bathrooms? We have highly trained sales professionals who can help guide our clients through the process, which can be overwhelming because of all the choices that are available. We do find, however, that many of our clients already have a designer, contractor or architect who is overseeing the project.

What types of products do your showrooms carry? Our showrooms sell luxury plumbing and appliances, and decorative hardware. We are the leading distributor in northeast Ohio for Toto, Dornbracht, BainUltra and Hansgrohe. We also sell Viking, SubZero-Wolf, and Miele in addition to many other luxury lines that, of course, include Diamond Spa.

Edelman is one of the showrooms that carries Diamond Spas. What is the reaction from customers regarding the Stainless steel tub on the showroom display? Customers always comment on the Stainless steel tub in our showroom. The first thing they say is “What an amazing tub!”, then it is followed by, “Is it cold?” We then get to talk to them about Diamond Spas tubs, their heat retention capability, and custom design possibilities.

What are the big trends that you are seeing in Kitchen and Bath industry right now? Many of our clients are coming in are looking for the natural products; stone, bamboo, etc. Buyers are more environmentally conscious which is great to see.

How is business since the economic downturn? We have been impacted like everyone else, by the collapse of the new construction residential market. The recent addition of luxury appliances and hydronic heating has brought many new customers to our showrooms. The renovation market has come back and is very strong and growing, and there are signs of life in the new construction market.

What do you like most about the products from Diamond Spas? They are gorgeous! When we have a client looking for a luxury tub, the first product we present is Diamond Spas. Customer’s love their unique design capabilities.

Is there anything you would wish Diamond Spas could do better?

We are extremely happy with Diamond Spas products, service, and reliability. You exceed our customer expectations.
